The data we will use for this homework assignment is a time series of global 2.5 degree (0 to 357.5 degrees longitude), monthly mean, equatorial belt (averaged from 5S to 5N) outgoing longwave radiation, precipitation, sea-level pressure, sea surface temperature and 1000 hPa level zonal wind. Time series go from January 1982 to December 2001 (20 years x 12 months = 240).
Get the NetCDF data here: http://orca.rsmas.miami.edu/~milan/.MPO581/HW3/hw3_data.nc
If you use an older version of GrADS that does not read NetCDF, use these:
http://orca.rsmas.miami.edu/~milan/.MPO581/HW3/hw3_data.ctl
http://orca.rsmas.miami.edu/~milan/.MPO581/HW3/hw3_data.dat
(note: these were written in x*y records)
If you prefer using x*t records (GrADS treats y and t dimensions differently), use these:
http://orca.rsmas.miami.edu/~milan/.MPO581/HW3/hw3_data_new.ctl
http://orca.rsmas.miami.edu/~milan/.MPO581/HW3/hw3_data_new.dat
Data was processed using this Fortran program: http://orca.rsmas.miami.edu/~milan/.MPO581/HW3/hw3.f90
For sanity check, these are the original data files before processing:
http://orca.rsmas.miami.edu/~milan/.MPO581/HW3/olr.mon.mean.nc
http://orca.rsmas.miami.edu/~milan/.MPO581/HW3/precip.mon.mean.nc
http://orca.rsmas.miami.edu/~milan/.MPO581/HW3/slp.mon.mean.nc
http://orca.rsmas.miami.edu/~milan/.MPO581/HW3/sst.mnmean.nc
http://orca.rsmas.miami.edu/~milan/.MPO581/HW3/uwnd.mon.mean.nc
Processed data looks like this:
